What to play this weekend (May 27-30)
With the exception of off-road racing title "Dirt 3," it's a pretty slow week.
With the exception of off-road racing title "Dirt 3," it's a pretty slow week.
Like last year’s crime thriller “Heavy Rain,” its rich plot is well served by simple gameplay that prioritizes players’ ability to “read” faces, analyze clues and discern motives over an accurate and itchy trigger finger. By simplifying gameplay so that everyone can participate, Team Bondi has created a classic that gamers will be talking about for years.
The big release this week is "L.A. Noire," but if you're playing on PC, you can't overlook "The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings."
"The Darkness" wasn't a megahit when it came out in the summer of 2007 but won a cult audience with its dark, mature story line. The comic-based series is getting a revival this fall, with an overhauled control scheme and a new studio responsible for development.
After spending a few hours playing some kid-oriented titles for THQ's uDraw GameTablet, I'm hoping we'll get more titles aimed at older gamers when the device makes the leap to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Last week, I played the holy heck out of "Brink," squeezed in a little "Divinity II" and unwound with some Xbox Live Arcade games and "Culdcept Saga." Oh, and I'm still horrible at "Call of Duty."
The PlayStation Network came up Saturday evening/early Sunday, depending on where you live. So have at it! If you're not catching up with old favorites, here's what else is looking good for this weekend.
Sometime after the PlayStation Network comes back up, we'll get a chance to try out Lexis Numerique's upcoming survival horror game "Amy," about a woman who has to stay near a little girl or take drugs to avoid turning into a zombie.
Depending on your gaming likes and dislikes, Splash Damage's teamwork-oriented first-person shooter "Brink" is either a breath of fresh air or a complicated, frustrating, glitchy mess. That's because it's both of those things. I fall into the "love it" camp but can't begrudge the haters.
I'll be putting up a full review of "Brink" later in the week. But I've spent several days playing the game and think it has a lot going for it. Here's what I think so far and what I'll be looking for when I play the game against people who bought the retail version.
