Beyond Summer of Arcade
Microsoft's Summer of Arcade promotion is all well and good, but here's a look at a few great downloadable games that can hold their own against the format's very best.

With "Duke Nukem Forever," "Alice: Madness Returns" and "Child of Eden" all hitting this week, we're getting three sequels to games that are more than 9 years old. I'm only recommending two of those sequels, however.
It's been a while since I've done one of these, but nonreview games I've managed to sneak in include "Outland" and "Dragon Quest IX." I've also been spending time with old favorites "Bulletstorm" and "Portal 2."
Last week, I played the holy heck out of "Brink," squeezed in a little "Divinity II" and unwound with some Xbox Live Arcade games and "Culdcept Saga." Oh, and I'm still horrible at "Call of Duty."
It's a pretty slow week, with "Darkspore" on the PC looking for a good bet for fans of "Diablo"-style hack-and-slash. Just don't go in expecting an epic story.
