What I’ve been playing (Sept. 26-Oct. 2)
Here's a quick look at what I played last week, as well as what I thought of each game.
Here's a quick look at what I played last week, as well as what I thought of each game.
It's officially fall, with "Dead Rising 2," "FIFA Soccer 11," "Wii Party" and a new "Guitar Hero" headlining this week's new releases.
Like "Deathsmiles" on the Xbox 360," "Sin & Punishment: Star Successor," a sequel to a much-loved Japanese game, is all about shooting everything in sight as quickly and efficiently as possible. Scorehounds take note.
"Deathsmiles," a Japanese arcade game that recently saw U.S. release on the Xbox 360, is easily one of this year's most niche video games. You play as one of five teen girls in frilly dresses, and you and an animal friend fly around and shoot everything in sight. Yeah, it's crazy. It's also incredibly accessible and a lot of fun.
A couple of old-school shoot-'em ups dominated my week. Plus, I prepare for the next season of my "Culdcept Saga" league and close the book on the first "Puzzle Quest."
I had some familial commitments this week, so it was a little lighter than usual, but here's what I found time for.
This week's highest profile releases are yet another time-travel themed first-person shooter with middling reviews and the umpteenth Lego-themed platform-jumping title geared toward kids. So I'm just gonna lead with the weird Japanese "bullet hell" game featuring what the marketing materials refer to as "gothic Lolitas."
