Players of Ubisoft Montreal's "Assassin's Creed Brotherhood" may have noticed the game's horses are forever. But their immortality doesn't really come into its own until you're tasked with gunning down men on horseback with a machine gun.

During what I'm going to call Day 0 at E3, I watched Electronic Arts and Ubisoft preview a couple of dozen upcoming titles for the Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. But the real buzz at the show was from Microsoft's morning press conference. A raging headache and only two hours' sleep on Sunday night kept me from Activision's bash at the Staples Center.
