Recapping Monday at E3

During what I'm going to call Day 0 at E3, I watched Electronic Arts and Ubisoft preview a couple of dozen upcoming titles for the Wii, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. But the real buzz at the show was from Microsoft's morning press conference. A raging headache and only two hours' sleep on Sunday night kept me from Activision's bash at the Staples Center.

What to play this weekend (July 17-19)

You'd think with kids out of school for the summer, game publishers would be flooding the marketplace with quality titles looking to capture some of that summer job dollar. But you'd be wrong. "NCAA Football 10" is the only big retail release this week. Luckily, Sony and Microsoft are filling the void with some downloadable goodness.

A free online game show challenges our entertainment-on-demand culture by forcing Xbox 360 owners to log on during primetime to compete for prizes. Complete with a live host, it's a throwback to the days before TiVo and VCRs. It's also kinda awesome.
