Sometime Monday afternoon, about 24 hours after some PlayStation 3s lost the ability to connect to the PlayStation Network, PS3 owners with busted consoles started reporting their machines worked again. A few hours later, the official word came from Sony: You’re in the clear to get back in the water, so to speak.

The fact that the failure and restoration both happened around midnight GMT makes me wonder whether this leap-year glitch was “fixed,” or whether it just went away after a day, sort of like that Zune problem on the last day of 2008. No matter, everything seems to be fixed now. I’m guessing that if Sony doesn’t have a fix in place right now for the leap year bug, they will by the time March 1, 2011 rolls around.

Hopefully no one’s loss of trophies or data issues were permanent.
