Fans of Jack Black’s whacky musical antics and Sonoma native Tim Schafer’s whimsical, wry, oddball games will be delighted to know that “Brutal Legend,” the latest game from Schafer’s San Francisco-based development house, Double Fine, is set to release Oct. 13.

Schafer’s past credits include one of my favorite games from last console generation, “Psychonauts,” as well as a number of beloved titles he worked on while at LucasArts, such as “The Secret of Monkey Island,” “Day of the Tentacle” and “Grim Fandango.” “Brutal Legend” stars Black as a roadie who finds himself thrown into the grim, fantastical worlds depicted on classic metal album covers. Additional voice work comes from Motorhead’s Lemmy, Rob Halford of Judas Priest and Lita Ford.
